Who is Lao Family Community?
Lao Family Community, Inc. (LFC) of Milwuakee is a leading and respected refugee self-help organization founded in 1981, serving refugees in Milwaukee, Washington, Waukesha, and Ozaukee counties. Incorporated in 1981 as a non-profit membership organization, LFC's goals are to assist refugee in alleviating the problems encountered in the cultural transition process and to provide education and support resources necessary for refugees to become independent and self-sufficient citizens of the United States.
What services does LFC Provide?
Lao Family Community's activities help refugees adapt to life in the United States while maintaining their traditional culture within their new country. LFC provides refugees an integrated system of bilingual and family services for achieving self-sufficiency and becoming free of welfare dependecy. Through programs in the following areas, LFC links refugees in need with available cummunity services and resources.

Support Services
Assistance, representation, and interpretation for refugees interacting with health providers, social services, and the legal system; distribution and provision of emergency food, clothing, and other immediate needs; family counseling on domestic and community issues; community liaison for the public school system.
Education
Bilingual adult and family literacy, native language literacy, vocational English, and Level 1 English Secondary Language (ESL).
Job Training
Bilingual vocational job training focusing on area of employment opportunities such as Electronic Assembly.
Employment
Lao Family Community place refugees in family-supporting employment opportunities and remove barriers to self-sufficiency by providing the language and skills necessary to overcome public assistance dependency. Assistance to refugees with job search and applications.
Immigration
Lao Family Community teaching citizenship class and help aid refugees with the immigration processing.
